In 1988, the company undertook a massive reorganization in response to rapidly changing business conditions. Company name was changed from Western Union Telegraph Co. to Western Union Corp. 1980 - for the first time in the history of Western Union revenues from money transfers exceeded the income from the telegraph service. In the 80's of Nineteenth century, Western Union was repeatedly tried capture by the railroad tycoon Jay Gould. He worked with Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the first phone. Thanks to cooperation with Western Union the Associated Press at the end of the XIX century took almost monopolistic position in the U.S. market news. Western Union provides consumers and businesses with fast, reliable and convenient ways to send and receive money around the world, to send payments and to purchase money orders. Sibley, the founder of Western Union, did not build a new telegraph lines, and persuaded the other players to join. American Telegraph Company, however, still had to buy it.
