MoneyGram wired transfer implemented many changes to its technology platforms designed to prevent or detect suspicious transactions. The company installed more than 23,000 new MoneyGram signs around the globe, making it easier for consumers to find MoneyGram agents. MoneyGram completed the acquisition of MoneyCard World Express, S.A. (MoneyCard) and Cambios Sol, S.A., two money transfer super-agents located in Spain. The Global Funds Transfer segment is the primary segment of MoneyGram, providing money transfer and bill payment services to consumers, who are often unbanked or underbanked. Commission income on remittances and other revenues of MoneyGram in the 2nd quarter 2012 increased by 10% compared to the same period last year and 13% in the base currency.
