Corporate credit unions are united on a cooperative basis in the Central Credit Union (US Central Credit Union). Like any financial institution, credit unions have the financial resources. Like the credit cooperatives, credit unions form associations of a higher level, which are called corporate credit unions. The main advantage of credit unions consists in transparency, controllability, governance for shareholders. Until the 70's there was a proliferation of the U.S. credit unions due to the increase of their number and the number of shareholders, although it must be acknowledged that there was also and a qualitative growth. Credit unions of the open type are still controlled by their members, but at the same time provide services to people who are not its members (external customers). Credit Union - a non-profit financial institution specialized in mutual financial assistance by providing savings and credit services to their members. U.S. credit unions have another significant difference from the credit cooperatives of farmers: the first have major proportion of short-term loans, the second - long and mostly in real estate. Unlike banks credit unions limit their activities to a closed circle of people.
