Like the credit cooperatives, credit unions form associations of a higher level, which are called corporate credit unions. Typically new members of the credit union become citizens having suretyship or recommendations from their friends - members of the credit union. Credit union as a consumer cooperative operates on the principles of equality of all its members. A credit union on its own initiative order is created by citizens (individuals) to solve their financial problems that they could not solve in other financial institutions.
