Specialization of credit unions to provide financial services to its shareholders requires a particularly strict regulation of membership and acceptable activities. At the organization of the credit union it is important that people know each other and know the extent to which each of them is trustworthy. Cooperation between credit unions, how they would not have been named, took place always, from the moment when the movement moved outside one credit union. Since the early 80's started the process of consolidation of credit unions, leading to a decrease in their number with a simultaneous increase in the total number of members. Credit unions of the open type are still controlled by their members, but at the same time provide services to people who are not its members (external customers). The relationship between credit unions and shareholders arise from the membership and are not customer relationship. In the UK, credit unions are a source of financing of people groups.
